Barrel: A proprietary blend of Hammer forged chrome molly vanadium made by FN that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its required use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons. The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. In addition, the chrome process for the bore allows for a lining almost twice as thick as a standard M16 for enhanced durability. Chambered in .223 Wylde, with a 1/8 twist, M4 barrel extension, and a Rifle-length gas system. This 18" A2 profile barrel is Mil-spec phosphate coated, High Pressure tested and Magnetic Particle inspected. The barrel is finished off with a 15" PSA Lightweight M-Lok free float rail and an A2 flash hider.

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is hard coat anodized black for durability. Featuring T-marks, these upper receivers are made for us right here in the USA.

Each upper is assembled to order with US-made parts, and test fired to check gas function.

How are you supposed to use it if there is no BCG or handle? Is this only a display piece?
nite f on Jun 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This should be a question that disqualifies you as a buyer.
What's the weight of this upper ?

BEST ANSWER: 3lb 11 3/4oz without the BCG
Is the barrel truly thinner under the hand guards like a govt profile?
Sean T on Apr 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The two I received were. There is a heavy version that you can also buy here that has the fat barrel.
Can I use a mil spec buffer and spring? Or do I need rifle length?
Joe A on Jul 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Mil spec is the carbine length. But you can use either carbine buffer & spring or rifle length. Either one should work ideally. Now if you have issue with one type, try it with the other....

PSA, what does this upper weigh?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

BEST ANSWER: Using my bathroom scales the upper without BCG or charging handle weighs 3.8 pounds..Lee
is the gas block pinned? Barrel dimpled?
Rafael on Jul 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Gas block does not appear to be pinned or dimpled, but I would not let that stop you from buying this upper-- it has an **FN made** barrel for a very good (great?) price. If you want a cromed-lined, 4150-type steel barrel with a 1/8 twist rate and 223 Wylde chamber, then this a very good upper. My advice is to buy it!
Can you shoot 5.56 ammo out of it??
Dwayne D on May 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You sure can. The 223 Wylde was created so a shooter could get excellent accuracy for .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO out of one gun. If you look online there are multiple posting that describe in detail the small differences in chamber dimensions and how that effects accuracy. I can tell you that I like mine.
Is this "lightweight" MLOK upper a 'pencil' barrel upper? The text says, "This 18" A2 profile barrel", suggests it is not a lightweight barrel model upper. I definitely don't want the heavy front end of an AR-15 A2 but the picture doesn't show this so, is the text wrong?
Sidney E. P on May 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Lightweight is referring to the hand guard. The barrel is a heavier profile, and definitely not a pencil. It’s a great upper and is surprisingly accurate for a chrome lined barrel, but might not be what your looking for if going for a featherweight build.
Will these CHF barrels start getting dimpled like the pa15 gen 2s? May have missed it if stated elsewhere.
Goosefraba on Sep 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: To date mine has not gotten dimpled. I also have not shot a lot of rounds through my rifle, nor have I fired rounds in rapid succession, so the barrel really never gets a chance to really heat up.
Could I get this with a railed flat top handguard instead of the dip down smooth top one being offered?
Tom R on Aug 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Theres one on a daily deal right now. just do a search for chf

High quality, extremely accurate.
About 300 rounds through, very accurate, smooth shooting. Even with cheap ammo groups were 1.25 moa. Would highly recommend.

Expectations Exceeded
I did quite a bit of homework on this build. I wanted the .223 Wylde to be built right and spared no expense in making sure that it would go bang every time and last me through whatever I could think might be coming down the road. This upper is just amazing. The barrel is virtually indestructible. Seriously, it doesn't get warm shot after shot and that's exactly what to expect with a machine gun-grade barrel. It groups very well, too. The upper is well-sized with plenty of mod slots and is lightweight. I would definitely recommend this barrel and most definitely plan to order more again.

This upper is a winner
I am very pleased with this upper. Shoots 55 grain to 77 grain
Very accurately. Does like the heavier bullets a little better. All in
all I am glad I bought this upper.

Not Good, especially for their premium line.
Right now not to good, she does not cycle properly. Ejects just fine, but fails to load a round 1 out of 5 times at least.

Hoping it's the gas system, gonna put an adjustable on it, try and feed more gas. If it doesn't work, she goes back.

Great Barrel, iffy hand guard.
The barrel is great; nice FN stamp and thick chrome lining. My only complaint is that the gas block was not aligned perfectly and also wasn’t dimpled. The hand guard finish is fine; but the 6 o’clock m-lok slot at the end of the handgaurd is obstructed by the gas block. It made installing a bipod interesting to say the least. I know this is a rifle length gas system but they shouldn’t have put such a small profile handguard on a longer gassed system. Other than those minor issues this product is definitely worth the money.

18 FN barrel upper
Finally got to shoot it today. Used an old charging hardly an a premium nickel boron carrier group I picked up awhile ago. Had 5 round groups the size of a nickel at 50 yards with just American Eagle 223. Tried at 100 yards an groups opened to 3 inches. I would stay that's from me not the rifle. Definitely like the rifle length gas system. Makes it shoot much softer then my Mid an Carb gas rifles.
