Barrel: Barrel is made for Palmetto State Armory by FN Manufacturing using their proprietary blend of Hammer forged chrome molly vanadium that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons. The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. In addition, the chrome process for the bore allows for a lining almost twice as thick as a standard M16 for enhanced durability. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1:7 twist, M4 barrel extension with extended feed ramps, and a mid-length gas system. The barrel is a lightweight A2 profile, is Mil-spec phosphate coated, and MP/HP tested. The upper is finished off with a Geissele .750" diameter Super Gas Block, A Geissele Super Modular MK14 M-Lok 13" Rail, and an A2 flash hider.

Geissele Rail: The MK14 is the latest entry to the Geissele line-up of Super Modular Rails. The new handguard design offers a smaller diameter and overall height to create a slimmer package. Included with the MK14 Super Modular Rail is an updated version of the proven Geissele Barrel Nut design, not only providing ease of installation but superior rigidity. The long surface contact of the 2.25” barrel nut interfaces with the receiver creating a platform that can be trusted to be straight and true the entire length of the free float rail. The MK14 is 3d precision machined using 6061-T6 Aluminum due to its strong, rigid and lightweight properties.

Utilizing Magpul’s M-LOK technology in the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions allow the end user full customization and modularity of their rifle to securely mount lights, bipods, and other firearm accessories. The Geissele MK14 Super Modular rail is finished in a durable and long lasting Type 3 Hardcoat Anodized

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is made to MIL-SPECS and hard coat anodized black for durability. These uppers are made for us right here in the USA by a mil-spec manufacturer.

Each upper is assembled to order with care, and test fired.

Is the gas block Geissele’s “bomb-proof” installed?
Michael J on Jun 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Negative. The cross pin in not used and the barrel is not even dimpled for the set screws. When I brought it up with a rep, he said they don't dimple the barrels on any of their uppers.
When is this going to be back in stock?

What is the total length?
D M on Jun 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: just a tick over 16 inches.
I see the gas block is not pinned, on the first run of the 10.3 it was not pinned either. The current run of 10.3 it was pinned, will the current run of this 14.7 then be pinned as well?
Justin D on Sep 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The current run of the 14.7 does say pinned (gas block) in the description section. The previous batch did not have them pinned, only set screws.

Excellent value.
Quality of Geissele handguard is top notch. Lightweight, aesthetically pleasing. Nice fit and finish. Barrel has FN marking. Slots on flash hider has been torqued correctly to the 9 and 3 o'clock position, pin/weld job is fine. Would be nice to have pinned gas block but not deal breaker. Mid length gas system shoots great in this set up. I favor this 14.7"FN pinnedwelded barrel over my 16" bcm and 16"dd barrels. Psa has done a great job on offering serious quality at a low price.

Great upper worth the money
Great upper. Well made in every aspect. The Geissele upper and gas block are extremely high quality and worth the extra money. Very light and extremely accurate. Nice tight and consistent groups.

This I a very good looking upper. The weld on the a2 muzzle device looks good. The rail is lined up about perfect to the upper receiver. I believe it is a geissele gas block but it is not pined just held in place with the set srcews. The barrel measures 16 1/16" from the bolt face to the end of the muzzle device. I would definitely recommend this upper.

Great so far
Only one range session but perfect performance with a Griffin BCG, H2 buffer & a Sprinco Blue recoil spring. Using several different 223 & 5.56 loads 55. 69 & 77 grains, ejection is from 3-4:30 & no ejector or extractor marks. With a Sig Romeo red dot, 50 yard groups are an inch & a half easily. The Geiselle rail is unsurpassed.

Pretty good. But I have some differences...
Beautiful upper. Legendary barrel and a legendary rail to surround it.

Some issues I have are that the gas block wasn’t “bomb proof” installed which I personally think should be synonymous with the purchasing of a completed upper sporting a Geissele Rail and Geissele super gas block - it’s only right.

Further, I think PSA’s QC kind of failed me. Although I’ll never sense the difference of the hair of error on a properly timed muzzle device this muzzle device was not properly timed. It appears to be slightly over torqued past perfect. I also think the pinning and welding could have been performed much cleaner. Looks like the tech who worked on mine used a larger than needed weld and got a little lazy in the grinder when cleaning up the bead.

It’s saving grace is that the barrel is very accurate. The rail, although it has not been run very hard, is an absolute beauty. It was also mated with a no bullshit amazing lower set up.

Hope this helps.

Very nice premium upper… once replaced by PSA & worked on by my gunsmith.
I own a number of CHF uppers and have liked them quite a bit, writing good reviews for them and recommending them to others. Unfortunately, my experience with this one was a bit more problematic.

Having already owned the non-Geissele version of the pinned & welded 14.7” CHF upper, when this Geissele version came out, I quickly ordered it and sold my old upper to a friend.

It took PSA about two weeks to ship my upper and I finally had it in about three weeks. I was rather excited to get it. However, as soon as I unpacked it, I noticed a problem. The permanently attached A2 hider was significantly mist-timed/canted. I mean, my old upper was also a bit canted there but well within spec. This one was crooked enough to affect the gun’s recoil by pushing it to one side. So, it wasn’t just “ugly”. However, “ugly” is exactly what I saw when I flipped the upper around and looked at the weld and what the A2 hider looked like on the bottom side. Once again, my non-Geissele upper didn’t have the cleanest and prettiest spot weld but this one was just atrocious. The weld itself was a bloody mess and burned the finish all around itself. In addition, when the welder was cleaning up the weld with a file, he scuffed the A2 hider all over the bottom. I mean, just look at the pic.

Needless to say, I received a defective and blemished product and wasn’t happy with the situation. I contacted PSA Customer Service to get it RMAed. I don’t like to talk on the phone and so I went the e-mail route. It took Customer Service five days to reply to my initial query. After they requested some additional info from me and I quickly replied, it took them another 5 days to e-mail me back. Long story short – it took a while to get the RMA going. However, they finally generated a pre-paid shipping label for me and I followed all their instruction and sent my upper back to SC for repair or replacement.

I asked Customer Service to let me know when the repaired (or replaced) upper ships so that I could track it and be there to sign for the package. They did not. It just showed up in two and half weeks and required an adult signature. I was home by pure chance when the UPS delivered it.

PSA replaced my upper with a new one and this one was as perfect as can be, like they really made an effort to impress me. I appreciate that. A subsequent range trip confirmed the that the upper works as well as it looks.

Due to this upper’s excellent barrel and M-Lok rail, low weight and more compact profile, I really want to use it on my “go to” carbine but a specific issue prevented me from doing that “out of the box”. The Geissele Super Gas Block is NOT pinned in place and the barrel is not dimpled for the gas block set screws. There wasn’t even any Loctite used on the screws! In addition, PSA did not include Geissele’s coil pin in the packaging in case you want to pin the gas block yourself.

I contacted Geissele and am currently waiting for them to send me the appropriate coil pin. After I get it, I am taking this upper to my gunsmith, who will replace the gas tube with an Inconel one, make sure the barrel nut in properly torqued and greased and reinstall the Super Gas Block using Geissele’s “Bombproof Install” method, with the set screws in barrel dimples and a coil cross pin locking the gas block durably in place.

After that work, which will cost me $75, is done, I will be able to fully trust this upper and look forward to many years of problem-free use.

Anyway, I still think that CHF uppers (and this one in particular) are a great value but am knocking one star off for the defect and spotty customer service experience, as well as another half a star off for the gas block not installed in a durable manner. So, consider this a 3.5/5 review.

Sleek, fast handling and tough. IMO the use of just the gas block set screws is all that you will ever need when torqued and locked.
You know what a quality chf barrel FN makes. Pair that with a MK 14 rail and that is on par with high dollar top tier uppers. Finish and assembly was great. The balance and handling is really better on a 14.7. It is a must for a pin and weld job to be timed perfectly and the small weld on top of the pin needs to be obvious. Function and accuracy is great and worth a little extra money for this set up.
