Barrel: A proprietary blend of Hammer forged chrome molly vanadium made by FN that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons. The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. In addition, the chrome process for the bore allows for a lining almost twice as thick as a standard M16 for enhanced durability. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1:7 twist, M4 barrel extension, and a mid-length gas system. The special A2 light profile barrel allows for better balance and portability over the standard A2 profile and is Mil-spec phosphate coated. Barrel is High Pressure tested, and Magnetic Particle inspected, to ensure quality and dependability, and is finished off with a PSA 13.5" Lightweight M-lok Rail, .750" low-profile gas block, and a pinned and welded A2 flash hider. The pinning and welding is makes the flash hider a permanent part of the barrel which brings it to the legal length.

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is made to MIL-SPECS and hard coat anodized black for durability. Featuring machined T marks, and a mil-spec finish. These uppers are made for us right here in the USA by a mil-spec manufacturer.

Why does the barrel extension have 4 dimples on the left side? You can see them if you remove the bcg. Anyone have information on these? Pretty strange.

Is the barrel dempled for the screws on the gas block ?
Mark on Feb 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No. The gen2 uppers are now dimpled.
So do I have to use this with a pistol lower or can I use a rifle lower? (I want to avoid the SBR thing if possible)
Rob Y on Jan 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It says pinned and welded flash hider. That's done to bring the legal length of the barrel up to 16 inches, in order to avoid nfa.
Would this be considered a heavy barrel (for Maryland compliance)?
Stephen M on Dec 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No it says right in the description this is a lightweight profile barrel. Actually it is like a lightweight version of the A2 profile.
Could someone take a picture of the FN mark on the barrel and post it here? thanks.
libarrel on Jan 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I posted a couple pics, very hard to do since its under the handguard.
Can you change out the handguard with a different one?
Georgie on Dec 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If you want an upper with a different handguard... then go find an upper that already has the handguard that you want already installed. Or buy a stripped upper and all the parts you want. For Pete's SAKE!!!
Can you ship an upper like this to California?
C S on Dec 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Consult a lawyer or the CA gubmint. Don't take legal advice from random internet commenters.
Is this barrel available by itself?
Tony A on Jan 23, 2019
who makes this rail? it looks exactly like the Midwest Industries combat rail. arw these rails midwest ind?
Jamin S on Dec 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: these are in fact produced by palmetto inhouse.
the M-L stands for MLok, not midwest industries.
Are the srews that hold the gas block to the barrel dimpled into the barrel ?
Mark on Feb 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, they are NOT Mark. It is secured with two set screws on the bottom of the gas block. The barrel is NOT dimpled either. But the set screws are correct, in that they have the tips that act as a type of crush washer when they are tightened. So if you remove them to remove the gas block and then reinstall the block, you should technically use to new set screws designed to crush on the tip when tightened back down on to the barrel.
What's pinned and welded?
Jimmy on Feb 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The A2 flash hider is pinned and welded to the 14.7" barrel to make the legal length 16.1" so you don't need an SBR tax stamp. If you don't care about changing the flash hider, this is the way to go. It works, and it is a really nice barrel (and upper). Love mine!
How often are these restocked? I'd like to buy one ASAP.
Cole B on Feb 14, 2019
Is the gas block pinned?
John C on Apr 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They use a low-profile gas block, secured by two screws on the bottom. The flash hider (FH) is pinned to the barrel, so it cannot be easily removed. This 14.7" upper is excellent in all regards, workmanship, solid feel, and surprisingly light, fit perfectly to my PSA lower, no play at all. I'm happy with this upper and want to buy another soon.
Can I attach a magpul angled grip to this?
Steve on Jan 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You would need to attach an M lock picatinny rail peice or use a Angled foregrip thatvis M lock compatible.
Does anyone know is the gas port milspec, or oversized?
Brett on Feb 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: .750
Is the handguard the same as the one pictured, partial rail on top or full rail?
Howard S on Jan 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: As pictured. Full rail is item 77932796
What is the difference between this one the other 14.7” lightweight model 77932796?
John W on Jan 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The handguard rail. Look closely at them. One has a rail all the way down, this one is lighter weight.
Are the screws that are on the gas block dimpled into the barrel ?
Mark on Feb 16, 2019
Is the gas block pinned?
Anthony R on Apr 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Anthony: No, the gas block is NOT pinned. It has two hex head set screws. The barrel is NOT dimpled either.

Only the flash hider is pinned and welded in place, to keep the barrel length legal.

The barrel DOES have the Fabrique Nationale Herstal marking.
Has anyone had a problem with their charging handle not fitting? I just received this upper today and all the charging handles I have will not fit.

Buy it now
It looked good, barrel was FN marked. It runs reliably. It’s accurate enough. I’ve only run green tip through it thus far on steel, so I can’t comment on group size with match ammo. I wish the gas block was pinned.

Amazing...Period!
I hear the term “depend your life on it” thrown around the firearms community a lot. Well this is the second upper I’ve got from PSA and my son has one also. EVERY TIME we’ve pulled the trigger they’ve gone bang and the placements are very accurate. Now is this a military grade weapon? Of coarse not and on that note the majority of people buying them aren’t in the military. They’re average every day Americans like you and I. Most of us purchased these weapons for self and home defense and won’t likely ever have to use them in a military style situation. For those that feel they may then I absolutely agree with you. Go and get one of the “higher end” brands. I will say this though, this barrel was made by FN and we all know their quality and reputation so it doesn’t get much higher that them. I salute PSA for making good quality rifles and parts for the blue collar American and for teaming up with companies like FN to take things to the next level. PSA...I’ll “depend my life” on it.

Great value
I am delighted with this upper. Great value for the money. Accurate shooter and the mid length gas system is amazingly soft in recoil. Almost no "dot bounce" of the red dot. Liked the first upper so much I bought a second. It's a great shooter as well. Love the FN barrel and this length upper is a delight to maneuver. Way to go PSA.

Boogaloo ready upper
Great upper, do your research, try to build a REAL CFH barreled 14.5" upper for this price pinned and welded. You wont find it. Shoots 1.5 MOA with bulk ammo.

Nice upper for the price. Very happy with the purchase.
This is my 3rd upper from PSA. Very pleased with it. I went with an Aero M4E1 lower, Aero CH and Aero chrome lined bcg. My first 3 shots to find a zero were easily under 1 inch at 100 yards using 75 grain bthp. I only have 30 rounds down it, but I don't anticipate any issues in the future. I will be adding thread locker to the gas block screws and handguard screws as others have mentioned. I have this exact upper (non chf) in the 16 inch version with a 15 inch handguard, and I like the lighter feel and handling of this one better. I will be running this next to a 20 inch chf nitrided rifle. I look forward to comparing them.
First 3 shots to find a zero
Went with Aero bcg & ch, Aero complete m4e1 lower. Magpul & BCM furniture. Trijicon accupower 3-9.

First visual impressions feel great
I looked in the barrel, great shiny coating, blew air threw the gas port, great, very light weight, weld is precise enough if you want to change muzzle device, keeping mines default, like the way it looked from the beginning, hand guard does have sharper edges on horizontal position, makes the grip feel good, fn labeled hp mp 1 n 7 can’t wait to shoot this smooth gas system. Here’s some photos

This build performed just as it was supposed to. Ran a couple hundred rounds through it without any hiccups. Look to PSA for my next build
