Barrel: Barrel is made for Palmetto State Armory by FN Manufacturing using their proprietary blend of hammer forged chrome molly vanadium that is referred to as "Machine Gun Steel" by virtue of its use in FN's M249 and M240 weapons. The hammer forging process work hardens the steel, making it more durable. In addition, the chrome process for the bore allows for a lining almost twice as thick as a standard M16 for enhanced durability. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1:7 twist, M4 barrel extension with extended feed ramps, and a carbine gas system. The barrel has an A2 style profile, is Mil-spec phosphate coated, and MPI/HPT tested. The upper is finished off with a  .750" low profile gas block, Palmetto State Armory 9" Lightweight Free Float Rail, and an A2 flash hider.

Upper: Forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is made to MIL-SPECS and hard coat anodized black for durability. Featuring machined T marks, and a mil-spec finish. These uppers are made for us right here in the USA by a mil-spec manufacturer.

Each upper is assembled to order with care, and test fired.

I understand the gasblock is not adjustable, but has anyone run a suppressor on these uppers? Results?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, I routinely run a SilencerCo 7.62 SpecWar (with flash-hider QD) on the 10.5" nitride upper. No problems at all.
Just getting in to ars does this have to go on to a pistel lower?
Ashtontim on Apr 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Not a lawyer. Yes to build as a pistol it must go on a lower purchased as a pistol or “other”. Unless you are building an SBR and already have the tax stamp.

Is the flash hider pinned and welded?
alexander r on Feb 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, you can remove the flash hider. Keep in mind, this should be used with a pistol lower or a SBR with a tax stamp.
Should this barrel have any markings on it designating that it’s an FN CHF barrel? I purchased it but do not see any markings on it. My CHF rifle uppers have it marked on the barrel.
Derek S on Mar 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Mine is marked with the FN logo and “CHF” on the top of the barrel just in front of the chamber.
is the gas block pinned?
jared c on Jun 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: good question. no, its not. the barrel is dimpled on the bottom with 2 set screws. i prefer pinned as well, it's much stronger.
Anyone who has run this upper for a while, I’ve heard they get really hot. I’ll regularly run a couple hundred rounds when I’m training. There is only 1 mlok slot at 3 so not much room for rail guards. Is heat an issue on these uppers ? Also how is the gas blowback when running suppressed ?
Eric W on May 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The heat is no worse than any other AR with similar rail. It is more than you will perceive from a plastic MLOK handguard. Can’t answer the blowback.

my first PSA upper
I gave it four stars because I changed the gas block for a pinned gas block.I should've bought the Geissele railed upper.Im very satisfied with the accuracy.

Great upper minus color difference in handguard and upper. Sleezy tactics by PSA
Great upper. Worked wonderfully on the Franklin armory binary trigger pistol lower I had.
Finish of handgaurd and upper were different colors so my gun has 3 different off black colors. (the lower isn't PSA's fault, different company)
My biggest complaint is they dropped the price by $50 a few days later and wouldn't refund the difference.
They have the Norton price guarantee which seems to apply to me (sent in for refund and we'll see) but Norton says the sku has to be the same and no promo code can be used. If familiar with PSA, they randomly make new identical products with different skus and they require codes on alot.
It's a lot of crap. If I wanted to play games, I'd pull out monopoly and do so.
Seriously looking to purchase stuff elsewhere now on

PSA Logo on Receiver
This is really good quality where it counts and the price is great. After shooting I noticed the handguard had rotated slightly-- not good if you mount a sight to the front. I removed the handguard, cleaned the grease off of the barrel nut and reinstalled using loctite on the screws. So far, that solved the problem and is a minor issue.

I just wish this did not have the PSA cannon logo on the outside of the receiver. PSA is a great company and I appreciate your products, but I really dislike your logo which appears cartoonish to me. I wish I could opt out of having it on products I purchase from you.

Whats not to like ?
I gotta say, the CHF CL FN marked Barrel put me over the edge of the fence for a pistol build.

All of the upper was assembled properly, right out of the box... I double checked.

Great barrel. Everything else mediocre.
Handguard finish doesn't nearly match the upper finish. Barrel not dimpled for gas block set screws. Aluminum barrel nut. You're paying for a barrel only.

Thumbs up with a twist
After shooting this upper I'm pretty happy. Too much fun its a flat shooter, very reliable, and extremely tough. At first glance I wasn't thrilled with the handguard finish. PSA get rid of the glossy finish. Bought mlok covers with handstop so no big deal.

Good but slight QC problem.
After receiving my upper, I threw in an fnh BCG and took it out to the range in 5°f weather and ran 300 rounds of steel case and reman brass ammo. It ran flawlessly without a hiccup. However, when I got it home and started breaking it down to clean, I noticed the gas block had been creeping forward on the barrel. And the rail was loose. I'm surprised it still ran reliably with this issue. I just re tightened and staked the gas block set screws to insure they won't be backing out any time soon, re tightened the rail and took it out again the next day. So far no more issues. Would have given 5 stars but the loose gas block annoys me. However, this seemed to be a minor problem with an easy fix. I have another upper from PSA with the nitride barrel with over 1000 rounds through it with no issues so I'm assuming I just got a lemon. It happens.

The FN machine gun steel is what really sold me on this setup.
The barrel is great, the m-lok handguard is awesome as well. Has flush cups for a qd sling machined into it on both sides.
My pistol setup.
